Bed Bugs | Chrysalis Pest Management | New Braunfels

At Chrysalis Pest Management, we get quite a few calls about bed bugs. Common questions include “how did I get them?” and “how do I get rid of them?” So today, we’ll be answering these questions as well as providing you with more information on these creepy-crawlers.

First, what’s a bed bug?

Bed bugs are insects (almost tick-like) that feed on human blood, causing skin rashes and blisters as well as psychological effects and other health issues. There incredibly tiny so they are hard to spot. Fortunately, there are signs to help you determine if you have a bed bug infestation – we’ll get to those in a minute.

Let’s talk about how they get in your home.

Bed bugs enjoy traveling, using luggage, furniture, boxes, and clothing as their Uber. Unfortunately, it’s not until we start seeing signs of bed bugs that we know there’s a problem.

How do you keep them from building an entire civilization in your home?

The first thing we’re going to mention is the biggest one: declutter your home. Bed bugs like to hide and the more unnecessary bulk you have in your home, the more places they have to make themselves at home. Re: Hoarders. Declutter, declutter, declutter.

If you use a laundry facility, be cautious. High heat from a dryer can kill bed bugs so instead of folding your clothes upon removal, place them in a plastic bag and fold when you get home.

Vacuum frequently and vacuum EVERYTHING.

What if they’ve already taken over?

While cleaning the area and getting rid of the affected furniture can help, for the most part, the only way to ensure they are completely out of your home requires chemical treatments. There are treatments on the market as well as DIY solutions however if your situation is severe, it might be time to call in a professional.

If your home has been invaded and negotiations are at a standstill between you and the bed bugs, give us a call. We’ll perform a free pest assessment and provide you with a free quote to rid your home of these uninvited guests – we do not negotiate with bed bugs.
